For the 2024 edition of the 1000 Women Inspiring Possibilities Gala, hosted by NorQuest College, Kiwi Productions played a pivotal role in bringing the client’s nature-inspired, lakeside-themed vision to life. Held at one of our favourite venues, Hall D of the Edmonton Convention Centre, this sold-out event combined elegance with purpose, as funds were raised to support women’s empowerment initiatives. Our team worked closely with the 1000 Women events team to ensure that their vision was brought to life.

Audiovisual Design and Setup

The heart of our setup was a custom-rigged truss system to support a massive 100ft x 17ft projection screen. This screen became the central visual element of the event, showcasing the remarkable painting by Giselle Denis, which served as the artistic focal point for the night. The painting’s vibrant, nature-inspired colours were seamlessly integrated into the event’s theme, and the large screen allowed every attendee, no matter their seat, to appreciate the beauty of this artwork throughout the evening.

In addition to the main projection screen, a 9′ x 16′ screen was strategically placed at the back of the room. With guests seated at round tables for 10, this secondary screen ensured that even those further from the front could enjoy a visually cohesive experience, creating a pleasant and inclusive atmosphere.

Audio Excellence

To ensure every word and note resonated with clarity and precision, Kiwi Productions employed a JBL line array system. This state-of-the-art setup provided even sound distribution throughout the venue, allowing every speech, performance, and presentation to be heard with perfect clarity. Our focus on achieving crystal-clear sound made a huge difference for such a significant and well-attended event.

Creative Lighting Design

The lighting design was an essential component in creating the warm and vibrant “lakeside cottage in nature” ambiance that the client envisioned. Our lighting designer carefully selected key colours from Giselle Denis’s artwork, using them as the foundation for accent lighting throughout the room. This design not only elevated the overall décor but also added depth and a sense of intimacy to the large space.

We also placed strategic spotlights around key event areas, such as the donation booth and the live painting station where Giselle Denis created art in real-time. These spotlights drew attention to these important aspects of the evening, without overwhelming the natural aesthetic.

A standout visual element was the custom ceiling centrepiece, designed with eucalyptus vines and patio lights. This unique feature added an organic, nature-inspired charm to the room, beautifully tying together the overall theme and enhancing the Gala’s cozy vibe.

Live Captioning and Programming

Accessibility was a key priority for this event. We provided seamless live captioning, ensuring that all attendees could fully engage with the program.

When you host a 3 day conference with over 1000 attendees, including 650 students, 225 volunteers, 150 people from partnering organizations, and executives from multi-billion $ companies, you need an AV provider that is professional, adaptable, and organized. We required entertainment for 2 major events with 700+ attendees: an opening ceremony and a formal gala for Canada's largest Undergraduate business case competition and conference. Bryce and his team provided our projectors, screens, camera work, live streaming capabilities, switching, and essentially ran our show on the technical side.

JDC West is a complex weekend: it involves 7 events, each with over 700 people with extremely tight turnarounds to move attendees from one event to another. This makes planning, setup, and organization prior to the event critical to success, and Bryce's decades of experience in the events space provided value immediately by knowing which camera angles to use in the room and how to reposition our extremely tight ballroom to provide adequate space for equipment. We had initially planned to use a more inexpensive option for our projectors and stream switching, but it became evident we needed help, and Bryce's team were a joy to work with for our planning committee, our event staff, management at The Westin, and our audio provider, Market Sound.
